Steve Buffone is a lawyer who upholds Georgetown’s values through pro bono and community service activities.
He is a cum laude graduate of the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service as well as Cornell and Stanford Law Schools. Buffone worked at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP from 1984 until his retirement in 2017, after which he became a legal and business consultant.
Buffone has received the Cornerstone Award from the Lawyers Alliance of New York, the Outstanding Citizen Award from Do Something, and the Points of Light Award from the Points of Light Foundation. He served as chairman of the board of Do Something for 12 years and continues his 25-year service on that board. He is on the Board of Directors of Crisis Text Line, Echoing Green, and Blink Now.
A life member of the Council on Foreign Relations, Buffone is the chairman of the Board of Advisors of the School of Foreign Service and serves on Georgetown’s Board of Regents. He is a former member of the Georgetown Capital Campaign executive council, Georgetown’s Board of Governors, Stanford Law School’s Board of Visitors, and the Sister City Commission of the City of New York.
He and his wife Barbara (C’80) are the proud parents of a sophomore Hoya and three alumni.
