John Carroll Weekend Returns in 2022!

Georgetown is heading to Nashville, Tennessee! After a year spent apart, what better place to reunite than in Music City, a metropolis thrumming with live performances, southern hospitality, and creative energy? Join the Georgetown community from March 31 to April 3, 2022, for a spirited weekend of cultural tours, intellectual programming, and cherished social events.

Alumni, university leaders, renowned faculty, and friends of the university will spend four days together, should public health conditions allow, experiencing country music, star-studded history, top-tier museums, and a playful culinary scene. Nashville takes public health guidelines seriously and is designated as a Safe Travels destination by the World Travel & Tourism Council.

With this special return, there are more reasons to celebrate! At John Carroll Weekend Nashville, we will recognize the 2020 John Carroll and Patrick Healy awardees, as well as our to-be-determined 2022 honorees. Join us from March 31 to April 3, 2022, to fete alumni and friends of the university who are doing incredible work, and to enjoy all the music, history, and culture Nashville has to offer.

The university continues to monitor the state of the COVID-19 pandemic and safety protocols may be put into place for event attendees and staff.

  • What is John Carroll Weekend?

Alumni, faculty, students, staff, family members, and friends of Georgetown travel annually to a different city to celebrate the university and the leaders it creates. The weekend is packed with social, cultural, and intellectual events that provide participants with opportunities to engage with one another and with Georgetown’s outstanding faculty and university leaders. John Carroll Weekend includes tours and excursions, lectures from industry experts, and receptions that offer an exclusive and exciting experience of the host city or locale.

  • What are the John Carroll and Patrick Healy Awards?

Each year, Georgetown honors several alumni and one friend of the university for their lifetime achievements and record of service to Georgetown. Two types of awards are presented at a special banquet during John Carroll Weekend. The John Carroll Award was established in 1951 to honor alumni whose achievements exemplify the ideals and traditions of the university and its founder, Archbishop John Carroll. The Patrick Healy Award is named in honor of Patrick Healy, the first African American president of a predominantly white university, who transformed Georgetown from a small college into a modern university. The award honors a person who is not an alumnus or alumna, but who carries on Healy’s tradition of service to Georgetown.
