Eileen Brennan Ferrell (N’75, G’83)
Eileen Brennan Ferrell, M.S., BSN, R.N. (N’75, G’83) was the Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer for MedStar Georgetown University Hospital until her recent retirement. In this role, she provided strategic direction and leadership for operational departments that include clinical nursing, respiratory therapy, perioperative oversight, and pastoral care.
Ferrell will be celebrating her 50th Georgetown reunion in 2025. She has spent most of her nursing career on the Georgetown University campus. She is a fierce and passionate advocate for nurses locally and around the country. She played an integral role in leading MedStar Georgetown University Hospital successfully through the COVID-19 pandemic, five Magnet designations, and planning for the new Verstandig Pavilion. She is well known for her passion related to the recruitment and retention of nursing staff, selecting the best and brightest nurses to care for Georgetown patients.
Ferrell has been an active Georgetown volunteer, serving on the School of Nursing Board of Advisors and currently as the co-chair of this board. Another highlight was chairing the School of Nursing 100th Anniversary Gala in 2003, when graduates and their friends celebrated the long, rich history of nursing in this country and at Georgetown.
She comes from a close-knit Boston family where Jesuit traditions have always had a major impact. Her two children, six grandchildren, extended family, and friends are the great loves of her life.
