Jamillah Bowman Williams, Ph.D. (B’03) is a professor of law and founding faculty director of the Workers’ Rights Institute (WRI) at Georgetown University. While her core scholarly interests focus on law and society, she specializes in employment law and antidiscrimination law. More specifically, Williams uses social psychological theory and empirical analysis to examine the effectiveness of legal interventions and organizational strategies designed to counter systemic inequality. She is particularly interested in investigating the impact of antidiscrimination law on the individuals it was intended to protect. At the WRI, Williams co-creates research, organizing, and policy initiatives that build workers’ collective power in the workplace and in their communities. She holds a M.A. degree in higher education from the University of Michigan, a J.D. from Stanford Law School, and a Ph.D. in Sociology from Stanford.
