Richard M. Hluchan (SFS’71, Parent’08,’09,’17)
Richard M. Hluchan (SFS’71, Parent’08,’09,’17) is a first generation American and the first in his family to attend college.
Hluchan practiced environmental and land use law in New Jersey for 45 years. He is proud of his service as chief counsel to the NJ Pinelands Commission. He was instrumental in implementing and defending the Pinelands Comprehensive Management Plan, which has preserved over one million acres and become a national model for land use regulation. Hluchan served on the editorial board of the NJ Law Journal, as president of the Delaware Valley Environmental American Inn of Court, and as a member of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers. NJ Superlawyers named him one of the top 100 attorneys in New Jersey.
As a student, Hluchan served on the editorial board of The Hoya and worked at WGTB-FM. He remains connected to Georgetown as a longtime leader of the Club of Southern NJ and Class of ’71 Co-Chair. He has served on the Alumni Board of Governors since 2003. From 2018 to 2020 he served as president of GUAA and sat on the Board of Directors.
He currently volunteers at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia and Interfaith Caregivers in Haddonfield, NJ.
Hluchan met his wife, Deborah Miner Hluchan (SFS‘71), on the Hilltop. They have been married for 52 years and have two daughters, Sarah (MPP’09) and Christine (C’08, M’17). He and his family are avid Hoyas basketball fans and have traveled to China, Italy, Maui, and beyond to support the team.
